Topic 1:Travel survey where will you go or where have you gone on holiday?

A:Good morning , teachers! I’m very glad to stand here having a discussion with my parteners. And today, our topic is about where will you go or where have you gone on holiday? It’s very obvious that everybody has some place where they wish to go. And now, let’s listen what they would like to say. xxx ,you say first ,is that ok?

B: Ok, about this topic, I really have many words to say .when I was a child, my parents take me to go to Sanya for a holiday. There is very beautiful. Delicious food, bikini girls, blue sky, and wonderful sea waves. It’s really fantastic! Hey, xxx, I have heart that you also go there last year, what do you feel in Sanya ?

C: Yeah ~~ I went to Sanya last summer vacation. I remember it was very hot that year. And I go to there just for surfing. But what impressed me most is that there were so many people, JOy and laughter everywhere.it was really impressive.

A: Of course it was. I have planning to go to Sanya for holiday since last year. Sanya is where I am looking forward all the time. And I also want to go to Beijing.

D: Beijing? I stayed there for a whole summer vacation. It’s really a good place for fun. After all, Beijing is the capital of China, Beijing is the heart of China. The most splendour place must be the Great Wall. Fortunately, I have been on the great wall, and standing there watching the beautiful scene, and I have taken the photo there. xxx how do you feel about Beijing.?

C: Me? Oh, I don’t know, I have never been there, but in my heart, Beijing is the holiest place in China, as you know, it is the capital of our country after all. Tian an men square, the palace museum, and the great wall, is all where I want to go .xxx. Do you want to go to Beijing on holiday?

B: Certainly yes! I can’t wait going to Beijing. In addition, I also wish to go to the ancient city of Ping Yao. It’s often say that, Ping Yao, you may get thorough physical and mental relaxation. The beauty of old houses, the kind-hearted people, let you get drunk in pingyao.

D: Sure, as we all know, the ancient town of pingyao is inscribed on the list of World Cultural Heritage.it is where everybody wants to go. And it’s the one of the China’s best preserved ancient town. I must go there for holiday in the future.

A: Yeah~ that’s great! We all have the place where we want to go and we have gone. Beijing, the ancient city of pingyao and the passionate Sanya, are really the wonderful place. Not only Its beauty of modern, but also the beauty of antiquity, is all what we

are pursuing all the time. I wish everyone should go outside for vacation to obtain the experience of different local condition and customs, and go outside to broaden our horizons, and go outside to appreciate the beauty of the nature. OK, our discussion is over. Thank you!

Topic 2: How do you look upon on the relationship between GDP promotion and protection of the ecological environment?

A: In recent years, Tourism is becoming an increasingly important industry in China. Our government has taken effective measures to improve this new industry over the past few years. For example, it has explored many appealing scenic and historic spots. Tourists from all over the world come in flock to China every year.

B: You can say that again. Tourism can have a positive effect on the environment. First of all, with the development of tourism, it can bring our country huge finance income. Secondly, we can find ecological problems in some areas so that we can take immediate measures to deal with it, such as ecological construction and pollution control. In this way, we beautify the environment.

C: But people differ as to the advantages and disadvantages of the tourist industry. On the one hand, it can improve the local economic level; on the other hand, it may affect the local ecological environment.

D: You can say that again. Tourism can have a positive effect on the environment. First of all, with the development of tourism, it can bring our country huge finance income. Secondly, we can find ecological problems in some areas so that we can take immediate measures to deal with it, such as ecological construction and pollution control. In this way, we beautify the environment.

B: Yes, you are right. I think the GDP promotion and environmental protection are equally important. It is wrong to sacrifice the environment for the growth of GDP. We can’t deny that although too much tourists lead the economic development, they bring much harm to the environment.

C: So we need to find a balance between GDP promotion and protection of the ecological environment by developing ecotourism. Ecotourism is defined by the International Ecotourism Society as \travel to natural areas which conserves the environment and improves the welfare of the local people.\it is tourism which helps the environment and helps the local community.

D: I couldn’t agree more. Ecotourism is good for the local community, provides jobs,

services, and stimulates the economy. It provides energy conservation, less fuel is used and less harmful gasses are released into the air. It's helpful to plants and animals, keeping them protected. Best of all, the tourist gets a vacation that they will never forget.

A: A true eco-travel is a tour that not only allows us to express our love for nature, but needs our responsibility as well. As we enjoy the beauty of nature, we should try our best to protect it. And we should also try to protect wildlife. A true eco-travel should be like this: take nothing away but your good memory; leave nothing behind but all the green trees and the clean water.

Topic3:The impacts of tourism

A: Travel has become a popular way for people to enjoy their spare time. More and more people prefer to travel on vacation. And the tourism development will improve the local economic level. However, it also brings many social problems, one of which is the serious impact on the environment. How do you think about the impacts of tourism?

B: For individuals, there are many benefits to travel. Firstly, we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and relax ourselves. When we travel, we will be attracted by great landscape and forget pressure from both work and life. Secondly, we can make friends by traveling. For most travelers, they tend to find many companions to travel with. Thirdly, we can learn much knowledge form travel. In conclusion, we can not only relax ourselves and make new friends but at the same time we can learn much from travel.

C: I agree with you. Besides what you side, the tourism can also increase local economic income and improve the living standards of local residents. Tourism not only provides many direct jobs, but also stimulate the development of relevant industries, providing many indirect job opportunities. Tourism can also increase foreign exchange earnings. Tourism not only attracts domestic tourists, but also attracts a large number of foreign tourists, it has become an important way to earn foreign exchange。

A: I agree with what you said about the advantages of tourism, but there also have many adverse effects should attract our attention. For example, the shortage of resources caused by tourism development is a serious problem. The negative impacts

of tourism development can gradually destroy the environment resources on which it depends. Some developers blindly expand the tourism scale for short-term benefits, but they take the environment in exchange. These behaviors will put a strain on the environmental resources and result in some problems such as shortage of water and land resources.

D: Many people like travel, but they don’t have enough time to the place that far from their home, because they have to work. So that, many of them will go outing during the holiday. A problem arises because more and more cars are on the road, more and more people are on the road. You may spend hours buying a ticket, at highway exit, or waiting for a bus. On the other hand, a large number of woods and other plants were replaced by all kinds of accommodation facilities or scenic spots. That definitely breaks the ecological balance of these areas and destroys the natural beauty of the scenic spots.

A: At present, more and more people aware of the importance of environmental resources to economic and social development. Therefore, how to realize the coexistence with the tourism industry development and environment protection is an important problem.

B: I think there are many ways to protect the tourist attractions. Firstly, we should take measures to reduce the environmental load of visitor. The appropriate adjustment of the ticket prices will be an efficient way to reduce the visitor in the tourist season such as the winter and summer vacation, May Day and Nation Day. What’s more,The manager must control the number of visitors under the capacity of local environment. C: The local government should increase investment in environmental protection. Relevant departments at all levels should adopt multi-channel financing methods, in order to ensure enough tourism environmental protection funds. For example, retrieve some of the money from ticket sales for the investment of environmental protection ; In addition, the local government should increase financial investment, actively develop tourism and related industries, increasing economic power, to ensure adequate investment of environmental protection.

D: We should develop the public transport system and encourage people to use public transport. So we can reduce the air pollution. And there will be less traffic jam. We can also give the tourists cheaper tickets if they use the public transport instant of their own cars. In some crowded scenic spots, we should forbid private car and use

bikes or electric vehicles.

A: What you said are effective ways to reduce the adverse effects by tourism. I think we should try our best to seek a balance between tourism and ecological environment, so that we can achieve the sustainable development between our nation’s economy and the environment.

Topic4: What would make you wiser, traveling a thousand miles or reading 10000 books?

A: Good morning, teachers. Today, our topic is “what would make you wiser, traveling a thousand miles or reading 10000 books”. As students, we of course should read as much as we can, but meanwhile if possible we can travel to other places personally, contacting different people, experiencing various cultures, learning different languages. How would you choose, which is better you think, travel a thousand miles or read 10000 books?

B: Yeah. I think travel is better. Yet most of time, we find that the knowledge of the book is quite different from that of reality. Travelling can tell us the truth, helping us learn the world more clearly. Sometimes, what the books tell us is rather idealized. Not until we experience in person do we realize that the world is not as pure and simple as we think.

C:I don't think it's relevant in this day and age, but in old times it would probably be true. Today you can hop a flight around the world in a single day and not talk to more than the lady at the ticket counter. 10,000 books definitely wins today. Experience is quite useful though, but with the right knowledge those experiences can be a better, and arguably more useful.

D:Ten thousand is a crazy amount. If you read too many books you'll eventually feel that you're living through them. I would agree with this saying, not because I think it's better to travel than read, it's just that I would love to actually travel and experience all the places that I see in books.

A: I disagree because in general, reading can be just as useful as travel because you get different information out of these two different things. Reading can change the way you look at the world and it can open your mind just as well as traveling can, especially if you're reading history books or just really good works. I think

appreciating reading is very important because it keeps your mind active. Obviously, travel can absolutely change a person, especially if you're going somewhere like a third world country to volunteer or something. So I think both are important! B: If we read ten thousand books and stay cooped up in our rooms all the time, we won't be able to obtain as much wisdom as if we go out and experience things for ourselves, learning from bad times and getting stronger through strife and adversity. Such as something. People read a lot about how others act like so they could do it well. But they failed finally. It's because reading about something only makes you exposed, but doesn't offer you the full real experience.

C: Yeah, I agree with the principle behind it. Experience is more useful and teaches more than just reading up on things in theory. Having both is the best of course. I don't think one plane trip to one area of the world is going to be more useful to most people than reading a ton of books. But if you read 10,000 books on a variety of subjects I think you'd acquire more knowledge that could prove useful.

D: if all we do is travel for the sake of traveling, and we don't read any books or pursue any such kinds of knowledge, then it is better to read ten thousand books. But Why not do both? Why not read books and live life, learning from our mistakes? We don't have to travel far away to learn from mistakes though. We can learn from our mistakes right at home or near home. And then we can travel to learn more.

Topic 5: Do you think it is possible to realize the Space Tour? Give your reasons.

A: Hello everyone! I’m your host XX, Welcome to this program. Today’s topic is about the Space Tour. Recently, as we all know, there is a hot debate about this topic, so today we will discuss this topic and we are honored to invited B ,C and D. welcome guys!

B, C, D: Hi! Thank you, host.

A: Well, since you are here, please share your opinions about “Is it possible to realize the Space Tour?” Give your reasons.

B: As far as I know,Space Tour is the term that’s come to be used to mean ordinary members of the public buying tickets to travel to space and back. Now, we have the International Space Station and the space ship, the development of science has already enabled us to travel to the moon. So I think it is possible to realize the Space Tour in the future.

C: I don’t agree with you. Although we have the technology to go to the moon, but it’s

too expensive. And only the astronauts who are trained by the institution such as the NASA can go to the space. The ordinary members of the public can’t afford the money to go to space. Thus, I don’t think Space tour will be realized in the short time. B: NO, NO, NO. There is an example that ordinary people pay for the space tour. It is said that American businessman Dennis Tito paid between twelve million and twenty million dollars to spend one week on the International Space Station. And the cost will be reduced in the future. Do you think so? D

D: No, I’m afraid I can’t agree with you. In my opinion, on the one hand, space officials have agreed on a process to train private citizens to take trips to the International Space Station. But the cost is too expensive to ordinary people. We can’t afford, Despite the space tour cost will drop to hundreds of thousands of dollars in the near future.

C: Yes, my opinion is the same to you. Hundreds of thousands of dollars is a large sum of money for the ordinary person. Most of people can’t afford it.

D: Yes, you are right. On the other hand, people who travel to the space must be in excellent health and must pass difficult health tests. They must receive a lot of training. Ordinary people's physical quality may not reach the requirements. So I think it’s difficult for ordinary people to travel to the space.

A: OK. We have different opinions about the Space Tour. Someone think it’s possible, someone think it’s impossible due to the cost and the physical quality. No matter how difficult it is, I hope that Space Tour can be realized as soon as possible. That’s all! Thank you for your attention! Thanks.

Topic 6: what do you think is the greatest issue the tourism industry is facing nowadays?

Although the tourism industry of our country grows vigorously in recent years, but now it is facing a series of problems such as ecological destruction and environmental pollution, these have restricted the further development of tourism, thus realize the sustainable development of tourism has become a problem that can’t be ignored.

Although many unique natural landscape and historical and cultural sites have provided the rich tourism and considerable natural ecological support for the development of our country’s tourism industry; But the actual environment problems which our tourism industry is facing are not optimistic. In some areas, the influence of ecological destruction and environmental pollution even limit the further development

of tourism.

Some tourists have very bad environmental awareness, which adds the human factors on destroying tourist attractions. In tourist attractions, we can often see tourists touch and climb places of interest, the phenomenon that carving in the part of ancient graffiti also happen from time to time, all of these, make the original style and features and the existing life of scenic spots and historical sites under serious threat.

In China, the vast majority of scenic spot in the May Day and National Day travel peak, \work in different degrees, the air is polluted, tourism quality is affected seriously.

Topic 7: Survey: If you had $100,000, where would you go on vacation? How about if you had $10,000? How about $1,000?

A: Good morning, teachers! Today our topic is about where will you go on vacation if you had $100,000, and how about if you had $10,000 and $1,000? At present, travel has become a popular way for people to enjoy their vocation and everyone has some place where they wish to go. And now, let’s listen what they would like to say. xxx , if you had $100,000, where would you go on vacation?

B: I like travel very much, if I have enough money such as $100,000, I think I will go to some European countries. The tour around ten European countries is my first choice, and then I can experience the local culture and customs along the way, and visit some places of interest such as the Palace of Versailles of Paris, Leaning Tower of Pisa.

C: I agree with you. In my opinion, Europe is a lot of people are very much looking forward to the place, where the scenery is very beautiful, and the shopping environment is good. But it also is one of the world's highest consumption areas, so travel to Europe will cost a lot of money. If I have $100,000, I think go to Europe on vacation is a good choice.

A: OK. I think what you said is the public's choice. This people who have a lot of money prefer to travel to some country which have higher economic level and so far that they can see some different cultural and scenery. So how about if you have $10,000?

D: I will go to some surrounding countries, such as Thailand, Korea and Japan. These countries also have some famous attractions and features which are worth to go. And what’s more, it won’t cost too much money. In these countries, Japan is the place that

I want to visit best, because I like Japanese anime very much. And the Japanese food is also a great temptation to me, which is famous of fresh seafood delicacy, moreover, Sushi, Udon noodles and Oden are also delicious foods that worth to enjoy. B: yeah yeah~~I also want to Japan because of the beautiful cherry blossoms. The cherry blossom is the national flower of Japan. In the cherry blossom season, there are many tourists go to see cherry blossoms in Japan, not just to watch the magnificent flowers, more is to enjoy the unique Japanese Cherry Blossom cultural atmosphere. xxx ,do you want to go to Japan on vacation?

C: After listening to the introduction of your trip to Japan, I can’t wait going to Japan. In addition, I also wish to go to Korea, because I like the star of Korea very much. There also have many delicious snacks, such as Korean Kimchi, barbecue. And the local cosmetics is cheaper than domestic, so I can buy some domestics and take them back, it’s really a good choice.

A: I think both Japan and Korea are good country for us to travel on vacation. And now I want to ask if you have $1,000, where would you go for a travel? As for me personally, I will go to BeiJing. In my heart, Beijing is the holiest place in China, as you know, it is the capital of our country after all. Tian an men square, the palace museum, and the great wall, are all where I want to go.

D: I have been to Beijing on last summer vacation, and I think it’s really a good place for fun. Beijing is the capital of China, which worth all the Chinese people to travel. The most famous place must be the Great Wall. Fortunately, I have been on the great wall, and standing there watching the beautiful scene, and I have taken the photo there.

B: I also think there are a lot of places to travel in China, if you want to get physical and mental relaxation, the ancient town is the best choice. The famous ancient towns in China include the Phoenix city, Ping Yao and the old town of Lijiang. The beauty of old houses, the kind-hearted people, let you get drunk in these place.

C: I wish everyone should go outside for vacation to obtain the experience of different local condition and customs, and go outside to broaden our horizons, and go outside to appreciate the beauty of the nature.

D: Yes. I think no matter how much money we have, we can get a happy travel and enjoy a good time.

Topic 8: Group work: Work in 4 to make a presentation about “Tourism brings us...”

A: Good morning, teachers. Today, our topic is “What Tourism can bring us”. As you can see, as one of the most important industries, tourism develops rapidly in China in recent years. Almost everyone has the experience of a journey, in China or abroad. So, what can we get or what will we lost from tourism? Now, let’s have your opinions. B: Personally, I think tourism can relieve pressure of study and work. Although the process is a bit tired, it’s full of endless happiness. There are always a lot of things to do if we go to a new place. For example, during the trip to Beijing, we will visit tourist attractions like Tian’anmen Square, Great Wall or Summer Palace; eat special food like Beijing Roast Duck; experience the local culture such as listening Peking Opera. The point is that we’re able to relax mind and broaden our horizon at the same time.

C: I agree completely. In addition, I think the best thing about tourism is that we can make friends. People who share the same interest will become friends with us very naturally. During the trip, we can train our social skills by communicating with different people and dealing with different problems. So, go to a trip if you have time! D:That’s true. Tourism is good for individuals. But don’t you think it’s harmful to the environment? Due to a lack of environmental awareness, tourists always throw away garbage at random, which lead to environment pollution directly. For instance, we go to Beijing to visit Great Wall. However, some tourists like to carve their names into status in order to memorize their visiting. Moreover, some bricks have been stolen. The damage can’t be made up forever.

A: I couldn’t agree with you more. Except for status, tourism is harmful to ecological system too. Because of the huge number of tourists, wild animals are forced to leave their habitat for safer places. Flowers are picked for their fragrance, small trees are broken just for fun. Ecologic balance has been damaged in many sightseeing places. B: But that’s different. We are talking about what tourism brings us, not how we should travel. We actually adopt the right way to travel by default. As you said, it’s due to the lack of environment awareness, not tourism itself. The losses of status and ecologic balance can both be prevented.

D: OK, let me tell you what must happen. Local residents’ normal lives must be disturbed by tourism. As more and more places of interest are discovered, tourism managers are likely to invest to build some basic facilities such as hotels, restaurants and so on, which will obviously occupy large amount of land. We’re not supposed to influence their quite life.

C:I’m afraid I disagree. You call it disturbance, I call it communication. As far as I’m concerned, the reason why tourism develops is cultural exchange. One of the purposes of traveling to a foreign country is to study and understand the local culture. At the same time, it will bring its own culture to the local people. Therefore, it can promote the spread and exchange of culture. Furthermore, culture is a kind of tourism resources, so in order to develop tourism for their economic and social services, it’s necessary for a country to pay great attention to protect its national culture.

A: All right. I see we have agreed to disagree. Each coin has two sides. It’s undeniable that both positive and negative effects exist. Tourism benefits us a lot, we make friends, broaden our horizons and feel different folk culture. However, we should keep it in mind that only the environment is protected well can we continue to develop tourism. The above is our discussion. Thank you!

Topic 9: Over Tourism Brings Harm to the Environment

In recent years, tourism has been popular and played an important role in our nation’s economic growth. However, I am afraid that if tourism develops over, it will bring harm to the environment and give rise to many problems.

There are a few reasons accounting for my views and I would like to list three of them. One of the examples is that a large number of woods and other plants were replaced by all kinds of accommodation facilities or scenic spots. That definitely breaks the ecological balance of these areas and destroys the natural beauty of the scenic spots. Worse still, more pressure has been placed environment protection in that many tourists left their garbage in the scenic spots. In addition, over-developed tourism will occupy large numbers of farmland and lead to the shortage of the land.

In a word, tourism will be harmful to our environment if it is over development. Thus, I do not advocate that we development tourism without considering the environment. And we should keep the balance between tourism development and environment protection so that we can achieve the sustainable development between our nation’s economy and the environment.

And if we keep the balance between tourism development and environment protection. Tourism not only provides many direct jobs, but also stimulate the development of relevant industries, providing many indirect job opportunities. Tourism activity itself includes \accommodation, transportation, traveling, shopping, entertainment,\for transportation, restaurants, hotels, catering services and so on, on the other hand it also led to the development of other local industry. opportunities risks biodiversity pollution economic development offer job opportunities

Loss of biodiversity population pressure
