GPS与GPRS仅仅一字之差，使得很多人总是将两者搞混。尤其是刚刚接触GPS的朋友，总是会问：它和GPRS有什么区别和联系呢那么，首先先让我们明确这两者的确切定义。
何为GPS
GPS的英文全称为Global Position System，通过简单的翻译之后我们便得到了：“全球卫星定位系统”这样的结果。从20世纪50年代后期开始，美国人用了30年，花了300多亿美金，建造了如此一个辉煌庞大的系统，可以说是航天史上辉煌的一笔。

初建GPS全球定位系统的灵感诞生于子午线仪卫星导航系统，而子午线仪卫星导航系统无法显示定点高程、定位精度与定位时间不如人意的缺点促使了GPS的诞生。
这套系统由24颗卫星组成，以11小时58分为周期不间断的围绕着地球转动，为我们提供图片、数据。虽然远在12000公里的高空，却可以洞察地球上的每个角落。因此，起初这套设备仅仅是用于军事和涉及国家重要利益的民用领域，鉴于它的巨大价值后来才真正用作民用，并且完全免费。现如今，GPS产品更是层出不穷，GPS手机、车载GPS、GPS模块……于是，经纬度这个概念也越来越多的被提起，于是我们穿梭于地球之上也就的越来越轻松自如。
GPRS又是什么
GPRS是Gerneral Packer Radio Service的英文缩写，中文译为通信无线分组业务。目前国内的GPRS运营商是中国移动通信，其实我们经常在发彩信的时候用到它，简单的说，它是无限数据的一种传输工具。
具体来讲，GPRS是在现有的GSM系统上发展出来的一种新的分组数据承载业务。GPRS与GSM系统最根本的区别是，GSM是一种电路交换系统，而GPRS是一种分组交换系统。GPRS特别适用于间断的、突发性的或频繁的、少量的数据传输，也适用于偶尔的大数据量传输。我们可以将GPRS理解为GSM的一个更高层次。

GPRS的收费方式和传统的GSM也有很大不同，它仅按数据流量计费，即根据用户传输的数据量来计费，例如，我们在网上下载信息时，不是按上网时间计费也就是说，只要不进行数据传输，就算一直“在线”，也无需付费。再做个“打电话”的比方，在使用GSM+WAP手机上网时，就好比电话接通便开始计费；而使用GPRE+WAP上网则要合理得多，就像电话接通并不收费，只有对话时才计算费用。
弄明白两者的具体意思之后，不用讲你就会明白，原来GPS和GPRS只是“样貌”相似而已啊。不过，这两个长相相近的家伙，倒是还真有些联系，于是我们不得不再带出一个概念——AGPS。
浅谈AGPS
AGPS即Assisted GPS，辅助全球卫星定位系统。它是结合 GSM GPRS 与传统卫星定位，利用基地台代送辅助卫星信息，以缩减 GPS 芯片获取卫星信号的延迟时间、受遮盖的室内也能藉基地台讯号弥补、减轻 GPS 芯片对卫星的依赖度等等。 因此，AGPS 能提供范围更广、更省电、速度更快的定位服务，理想误差范围在 10 米以内。

也就算说实现GPS定位，完全可以通过GPRS网络的帮助，使其更加的优化。但是要实现AGPS技术除了要在手机内增加GPS接收模块之外，还需要改造手机天线、在移动网络上加建位置服务器、差分GPS基准站等等。如果再要提高GPS信号屏蔽地区的定位时效性，那么需要添加的技术就更多。因此，我们目前暂时还不提供该项服务还是能够让人理解的，而究竟何时我们才能在国内用上该项技术也不得而知。
最后用三句话总结：
1、GPS意为“全球卫星定位系统”，是一种定位技术，用来确认物体的经纬度位置，至少十年内不会有比GPS更先进的定位技术。
2、GPRS意为“通用分组无线数据服务”，只是一种数据传输方式，用来传递数据组群，如同发送手机短信息，不具备任何定位或防盗抢功能。
3、GPRS可说是GPS中的一个部件，为GPS技术应用起到一种传输数据的功能。
